“I AM MY HAIR” is a 20-minute dance performance, which is based on movement improvisation and Chinese ink painting. The project is initiated by a Chinese female collective – Yinfu Gao, a Chinese performing artist, Xiaoying Zhu, a Chinese ink painting artist.

The performance aims to explore “What does hair mean to female identity in Chinese cultural context ?” The performance intends to ask and transfer the questions into art: How can the topic of hair be related to movement, and how can we move in relation to our own hair-story? What stories does our hair tell?  How do we transform the pain into empowerment?

In the performance, The two artists follow the simple rule: Yinfu dances, Xiaoying draws the ink line by only watching Yinfu dancing without looking at the paper. What Xiaoying is drawing will be projected on Gauze screen, simultaneously becoming the background for the dance.
